For the many companies and business owners looking for a fresh start and a place with opportunities to grow, Newark has been the answer. So, it’s no secret why Celebrity Chef and Restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson chose Newark’s historic Hahne & Co building as the location for his second restaurant, Marcus B&P. Samuelsson brings the same flavor and flair to the culinary culture of Newark seen in the decade long reign of his Harlem establishment, Red Rooster.
In an interview with New Jersey Monthly, he shares why he chose Newark for his latest eatery hub. From his love of music and the arts, referencing Whitney Houston, the iconic musical daughter of Brick City, to the city’s history involving the Civil Rights Movement and robust migrant culture, it was a no-brainer for Marcus. Here’s an excerpt:
“Newark, to me, is filled with ambition. The level of pride people from Newark have is very similar to people from Harlem. My opportunity in Newark is to help create jobs for the next generation of hospitality professionals.”
