The Anderson Study

New independent research confirms that Newark would be an ideal location for Amazon’s HQ2 while providing unmatched value compared to competitors. The study, conducted by respected consulting firm Anderson Economic Group (AEG), examined Newark on two important metrics—labor pool depth/diversity and cost of doing business—and compared results against top contenders New York City, Chicago, Boston, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta.  Among the study’s key findings were:

  • Among competitor cities, the New York metro area—which includes Newark—has by far the most people working in relevant occupations and the most people studying in relevant fields for Amazon HQ2
  • With 1.3 million relevant workers, Newark has access to nearly twice as many qualified employees as any other competing metro region
  • It would cost Amazon an estimated $17 million less annually to locate HQ2 in Newark than in Brooklyn, and $74 million less annually to locate HQ2 in Newark than in Manhattan. (This cost advantage will increase after accounting for incentives)
